Memphis is a coming 5-year-old by the legendary FirewaterontheRocks. He was purchased from FWOTR farm as a yearling and has been under our farm’s ownership since. Memphis was started at age two on our farm and was in the trailer seeing the sights early. He then went to Pete Oen to be started on the pattern by one of the very best in the industry. He remained at Pete’s farm from May of his three-year-old year through October of that year. He then came home for the winter break. In March of his 4-year-old year he went to Emma Abbott’s training program to continue progressing and to add speed. Emma had him until October when he again came home for winter break. He is now coming into his 5-year-old year. This gelding is sweet as they come. He gets along with every horse in the pasture and is easy to catch. He trailers like a dream and would be great when you want to go have dinner with friends after a race. He will stand quietly for hours. He is exceptionally well mannered for his age and we would deem safe for anyone over age 8 and senior riders. That is rare to say for a younger horse like this. When he is hauled, he goes into the arena looking to turn barrels at whatever speed you want to go within his current training (noting we have not really pushed him yet). He is nice behind the alley and in the warmup pen. He has been with professional trainers at the top of the industry most of his life so has all of the buttons you will need. Rides in a snaffle with no tie down or a short shank broken bit. Doesn’t need much bit in his mouth. He is 15.3 hands and has gone through several growth spurts. This is one of the reasons we have not pushed him to enter. We wanted him to be able to mature at his growth rate. He also is the type of horse that would be best to increase speed on his timeline. He will ring his tail some when you really ask him to go beyond his speed limits and has done this at every stage. He will relax it once he gains comfort at that speed. He has a nice big stride and is a taller horse so if you want to really flex one around a turn this would not be the horse for you. He will lose power if you over flex when he leaves the turn. If you use moderate flex and leave power in his rib cage, he has very strong moves. No scars and we have x rays at Josh Harvey’s that you are welcome to look over if you are serious about the horse. Vet checks will be at buyers’ expense but we have had him checked before posting at Brazos Valley by Charlie Buchanan and he is sound. He has had hock injections in September of his 3-year-old year and also April of his 4-year-old year (we inject our horses for maintenance and to keep soundness during training). He goes for a vet check every quarter to ensure soundness (also part of our program). We are moving our farms focus to raising young mares to futurity and then breed. This gelding should list around 25K and we feel confident that at this price you will be able to easily sell him if he does not fit. Non-negotiable on price our training bills run around 1000-1200 per month on him so we are opting to sell private party vs. send back to trainer at a discounted price point. This horse is rock solid.
